Responsibilities

  • Overseeing 50 employees for 1st shift - Monday to Friday
  • Daily management of the converting departments
  • Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure the departments meet their key performance indicator targets of safety, quality, on-time delivery, equipment utilization and labor efficiency
  • Develop, coach, mentor, motivate and empower staff
  • Work with lean concepts to develop and implement improved manufacturing methods and techniques
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure top quality and service is provided to customers

Product and Process Engineer

Hermes Abrasives, Ltd., a leading supplier of coated abrasives products has an immediate opening for a Product and Process Engineer. 

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Drive the activities of the Company Quality Assurance system and provide objective evaluations of process performance, product quality and develop peers for continual contributions toward planned quality goals and process improvements.
  • Recommend and oversee testing of customer specific solutions for product applications.
  • Own responsibility for audit and compliance with environmental, safety and other regulatory requirements regarding plant equipment, systems, buildings and property.
  • Recommend and execute quality improvement manufacturing process projects.
  • Recommend and actively engage in continuous and process improvement activities.
  • Act as liaison for Hermes Virginia technical personnel and other Hermes locations to clearly communicate and oversee engineering improvements, process production changes, machine redesign/enhancements and training.
  • Direct the investigation and recommend solutions to product complaints.
  • Key team member to participate in all “lean manufacturing” projects.

Requirements 

  • BS – Engineering or Manufacturing
  • Minimum 5 years engineering in a coated abrasives or comparable industry.
  • Understands plant layouts, capital estimating and manufacturing equipment processes.
  • Strong people management experience, excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to inspire confidence and motivate.
  • Have excellent project management skills and be able to demonstrate consistent achievement of delivering projects on-time and on-cost.
  • Be capable of strategic thinking, offering robust solutions that will improve both performance and profitability.
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of problem solving and solid analytical skill capability to look at and find solutions for a variety of operational challenges. 

Other factors

  • This position is currently a senior management position but can easily grow into a VP position with the right individual. 
  • Willing to relocate and offer a bonus structure plus base salary.
